MRC Provides Earthquake Retrofit Services

Earthquake Retrofit, also referred to as Seismic Retrofit, is the modification of existing structures to make them more resistant to seismic activity, ground motion or soil failure due to an earthquake.

In 2015, Los Angeles County passed ordinance #183893, requiring Earthquake Retrofit modification be made on all multi-story wood-frame soft-story buildings and non-ductile concrete structures that were built before 1978.  The goal of this mandatory Earthquake Retrofit program is to reduce structural deficiencies and improve the performance of these buildings during earthquakes. With proper Earthquake Retrofit renovations, these buildings that are currently vulnerable to structural failure, will be transformed and strengthened.

In addition to safety and compliance, there are many benefits to working with MRC on your Earthquake Retrofit project.  Earthquake Retrofitting renovations can provide you with:

  • Improve Marketability – Earthquake Retrofit renovations make your property more attractive to buyers and tenants not just because they make the building more secure, but Earthquake Retrofitting will increase the property value, lower PML (Probable Maximum Loss), and avoid devastating damage to your property as well as the people in it.
  • Prevent extensive costs due to loss of tenants, loss of assets, loss of business operations, medical expenses, litigation, cessation of overall business operations, relocation expenses and increased insurance premiums.
  • Lower Insurance Premiums.
